A three-month-old baby girl was diagnosed with HMPV after being admitted to Baptist Hospital in Bengaluru with a history of bronchopneumonia. The baby has since been discharged.
The virus was also detected in the eight-month-old boy admitted to Bengaluru Baptist Hospital, Hebbal, with symptoms of fever and breathlessness since January 2.
BBMP health commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishore stated, “The hospital identified the infection, but further tests are being conducted to confirm the viral load.”
Medical reports accessed by TOI indicate that Multiplex PCR testing detected microbial RNA/DNA consistent with the virus in the baby.
“There are multiple respiratory viruses circulating in the city, and we are conducting detailed tests to confirm the presence of HMPV. Once confirmed, necessary health protocols, enhanced testing, and control measures will be initiated,” a senior official from the Health and Family Welfare Department said.
